Honey Bee Removal and Rehoming from Huddersfield Chimney Stack
We received a call out recently to a property in the Huddersfield area, just outside of Leeds and Bradford. The customer was experiencing bees entering their property via the fireplace. We booked the customer in for a bee survey, where we were able to use thermal imaging technology and many years of experience and knowledge to establish the location of the hive and the species of bee. It was discovered that they were in fact honey bees and ourselves and the customer decided that we would do all that we could to save them.
As the location of the hive would not be reachable by ladders, we hired a cherry picker for the day and set about removing the hive from the chimney stack. The pot was lifted off and the honeycomb was removed. The bees were gently hoovered into a temporary apiary to allow for safe transportation to their new home.
Once the bees were safely removed we went about repairing the chimney stack so that no other bees would be able to enter the space whilst also making sure that the area was not blocked. This was achieved using a combination of concrete, silicone and fine wire mesh.
The bees have now been set up in a lovely new apiary that they can now call home and continue to carry out their invaluable work.
